Why we need the Digital Strategy
We live in a world that is changing rapidly because of technology. Technology that allows us to do totally new things as well as do things we've always done, but do them in an electronic way.
New Zealand has always recognised the potential benefits technology can bring, but we've often looked at things in isolation.
What makes the Digital Strategy different is that for the first time the Government is looking seriously at ICT issues as a whole and, more importantly looking at how they affect New Zealand's people, businesses and culture, seeking to identify areas for action and areas for co-ordination.
As Hon David Cunliffe said at the launch of the Digital Strategy:
"The Digital Strategy is about people and their ability to connect to the things that matter to them. It’s about making sure all New Zealanders are included by building their capability and confidence in using ICT. And it’s about lifting productivity across the whole economy, especially among small and medium-size enterprises, and thereby helping to grow the ICT sector."
