Business Actions

 This page outlines some of the key actions the Government is investing in to develop the Business area of the Digital Strategy. These initiatives work alongside one another and support the development of intitiatives in other areas.

A number of initiatives have been put in place to help grow the ICT sector in New Zealand.  In addition, as the government's economic development agency, New Zealand Trade & Enterprise (NZTE) has a broad mandate to enhance the contribution that ICT makes to the economy.  For further advice on NZTE's business assistance programmes, please visit www.nzte.govt.nz

Small Business ICT Productivity
 


www.biz.org.nz is being extended to deliver enahnaced one-stop capability-development portal services that provide access to key information and links to advisor-assisted services to businesses, including helping them develop their e-business capability.

The role of biz is being expanded to cover a range of important productivity topics including those relating to ICT.
 

 

International Market Development

 
New Zealand Trade & Enterprise provides a range of tailored services (including advice, market intelligence, education and funding support) for firms requiring assistance to develop offshore markets. In particular, the Beachheads programme has a strong focus on assisting New Zealand ICT companies expand offshore.  It provides a range of services to accelerate market entry and international business growth, by linking New Zealand companies into networks and supporting them to establish and expand offshore operations. 

  Sector Development
 
NZTE identifies and responds to strategic issues for sectors where significant net economic benefits are available and where the market lacks the scale, specialisation and/or capability to deliver.  In 2006/07, NZTE will spend approximately $22 million on sector projects, with ICT having being identified as a priority sector.
The Government Electronic Tenders Service (GETS) provides local suppliers with notices regarding government tenders, with a view to facilitating full and fair access to government purchasing opportunities.
 
ICT Procurement is of great importance to the ICT industry in New Zealand - the government is a big ICT customer, spending up to $2 billion each year on ICT.  In partnership with the ICT industry, the government is committed to ensuring a more competitive ICT sector and more cost-effective procurement for government.
