Covert Filming
The Crimes (Intimate Covert Filming) Amendment Act was passed the third reading in November 2006 and creates offences covering the making, possessing, publishing, importing, exporting or selling of voyeuristic recordings.
The spread of mobile technologies that help us do things remotely, has also created opportunities for less desirable behaviour. Some of these can be addressed through the proposed changes to legalisation.
A Law Commission study in 2004 (PDF 402kb) concluded that existing laws do not provide an effective response to the increasing incidence of voyeuristic covert filming.
