2004 Draft Digital Strategy
The draft Digital Strategy was the government's starting point for developing a vision for New Zealand to become a world leader at using information and technology to realise our economic, environmental, social, and cultural goals. The government has been developing ICT related policy for a number of years. The draft Digital Strategy was designed to unify this work into an overarching framework. The draft Strategy is a whole of government strategy and has been developed by several departments, co-ordinated by the Ministry of Economic Development. It provides a framework to encourage "smarter" use and uptake of ICT by communities, businesses and government.
The first draft Digital Strategy was released in June 2004 for public feedback and discussion. We consulted extensively with businesses and industry groups, community and voluntary groups, health professionals and educators, researchers, and individuals. We received nearly 200 written submissions.
