Content Actions

This page outlines some of the key actions the Government is investing in to develop the Content area of the Digital Strategy. These initiatives work alongside one another and support the development of intitiatives in the Connection and Confidence areas of the Digital Strategy.

Free-to-air digital television in New Zealand is an important digital topic as it effects all New Zealanders.

The transition to Digital TV is a significant change to the broadcasting infrastructure and alters the competitive relationship amongst free-to-air broadcasters, and between pay and free-to-air operators. A significant feature of the emerging media environment is the opportunity for convergence between broadcasting, content producers (and funders), telecommunications (fixed and mobile) and the internet.

One of the focus areas of E-government is using tools like the Internet to increase the value of government services provided to New Zealanders.  Government agencies have increased their focus on the Internet as a channel for publishing information, and for delivering interactive services. Archway is a system that transforms the way government archives are managed and accessed. It replaces outdated paper systems with a dynamic database that allows the documentation of government functions, agencies, and records from 1830 to the present day. Archway contains descriptions of over 1.5 million records that have been transferred from government agencies.

NRAM
Nationwide - Archives New Zealand
 

NRAM is the National Register of Archives & Manuscripts – a centralised web based register of archives held in many New Zealand repositories. It is particularly effective for smaller, community based institutions which can use the NRAM system instead of investing in developing expensive systems of their own. Over 8,000 separate collections are documented on the system, which is used by researchers throughout New Zealand and internationally.
